Overview:

Fun, hands-on, exclusive day tour from Cairns and Port Douglas. Taking you from coast to rainforest, this 2 day tour combines the natural beauty of Tropical North Queensland and the ancient Aboriginal culture of the Kuku Yalanji people.

Kuku Yalanji – 2 hour coastal and mangrove walk at Cooya Beach north of Port Douglas.

This special place with three diverse ecosystems of beach, mangroves and coastal reef, is a traditional fishing ground of the Kuku Yalanji. Here you will meet with the Kubirri Warra brothers who will introduce you to traditional fishing and gathering techniques with the aim to catch your own tucker (food). Your catch may include crabs, mussels and fish, which are then cooked up for everyone to share with homemade damper on the balcony of the family home. A great, fun experience.

Mossman Gorge Centre at the edge of the rainforest

On arrival you are welcomed with a traditional smoking ceremony conducted by Aboriginal people with specialised cultural knowledge and which will protect you whilst visiting Kuku Yalanji country. Enjoy a delicious lunch infused with local flavours whilst at the Centre, plus there is time to explore the gallery. Following lunch walk with your guide through one of the world’s oldest and most beautiful rainforests, the Daintree National Park. An easy walk across boardwalks, tracks and bridges with a backdrop of spectacular waterfalls and mountain ranges, your guide will explain the rich flora, fauna and diverse ecosystems of this amazing rainforest. Ensure you bring your swimming bathers so you can make the most of the beautiful private swimming hole that is encased in the rainforest.
Continuing north, your journey takes you across the mighty Daintree River by cable ferry further into the rainforest to Cape Tribulation.
Overnight in Cape Tribulation in a beautiful split level cabin within a rainforest garden.

Cape Tribulation

Nowhere else in the world do two world heritage sites meet – the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree rainforest. Enjoy the Daintree at your leisure this morning, walk over to the beach, or there is opportunity to go Jungle Surfing, Kayaking or horse riding.

Daintree River Cruise and Janbal Gallery

The return journey this afternoon takes you on a 1 hour cruise on the Daintree River to spot wildlife, including crocodiles, before a visit to a local Mossman Gallery to meet with Aboriginal Artist ‘Binna’. Learn the stories told through Aboriginal paintings and create your own piece of Australian art to take home. Enjoy a short trip back to Port Douglas or Cairns where you will be returned to your accommodation.
