Daintree Eco Lodge & Spa offers a series of pure authentic Aboriginal cultural experiences for their guests. Rainforest interpretation and how these people’s ancestors lived in harmony with nature, Art workshops, cultural classes and Dreamtime story telling introduce guests to this ancient culture in a relaxed, interactive, natural way.

The Aboriginal guided rainforest walk is an interpretive tour, showing how the indigenous people have used the rainforest for centuries as their medicine chest, hardware store, supermarket and church. Native plants, some rare and endangered, from the world’s oldest rainforest are the stars of the 1½ hour tour.

Aboriginal art classes introduce visitors to the customs and techniques used by the Indigenous people in their art. Art classes begin in Daintree Eco Lodge & Spa’s Aboriginal Art Gallery, which showcases world class works of art by local Aboriginal artists. Visitors are encouraged to create their own Aboriginal inspired masterpieces using the natural ochres, incorporating Aboriginal techniques as inspiration. Guests can use either acrylic paints or traditional ochre from the property, and keep their art work as a memento of their visit to this unique area. Art classes run for approximately 2 hours.

Dreamtime storytelling takes the visitor to another world. Set in a clearing in the rainforest on the property, and conducted in the early evening around a camp-fire, visitors are treated to a telling of selected Dreamtime stories – with the permission and approval of the Kuku Yalanji elders. Over 2 hours, Dreamtime tours expose visitors to the oldest folk-lore on earth, and connect them to this special land in a truly unique way.

For non residential guests a day tour package with a morning guided walk, lunch and afternoon art class is available for AUD$149 per person.
