You are offered the opportunity to experience living in a community with the Arabunna Aboriginal people at Marree, South Australia. The tour will depart from Adelaide on the morning of Day 1 and ending on the evening of Day 8.

The Marree-Arabunna people have a very active community life. They are keen to share their knowledge of the country, their history and culture with non-Aboriginal Australians. One of the most impressive aspects of the community is their warmth and hospitality.

The group will learn about traditional ways and local history along with the impact mining has had on the community. We travel the Oodnadatta Track, exploring the ancient natural wonders of the Lake Eyre Basin, sample bush tucker and discover bush medicine and other desert resources. We may be taken to sacred sites, ancient bush walks, learn traditional practices and given stories from the Dreaming. At Finniss Springs Mission participants will have an opportunity to share the personal stories of people who grew up on the mission. Around the campfire we listen and experience the power of oral tradition.

The Arabunna invited lawyers to their country. Live legal issues include – Native Title statutes and agreements, human rights, mining, water conservation relating to Lake Eyre sacred springs and the Great Artesian Basin, protection of cultural heritage and community interface with government and bureaucracy.
