Travel in the comfort of a luxurious fully equipped air conditioned 4WD vehicle with a maximum of just 4 passengers. Note: There may be other guests on the Arnhem Land section of this itinerary. We pick you up from your accommodation in Darwin, travel by road to Kakadu National Park, then fly by light aircraft to Arnhem Land and back to Darwin.

Day 1: Your guide will pick you up from your Darwin accommodation at 8am in our luxury fully equipped air-conditioned 4WD. Our first stop is Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve, a vast open wetland area that is home to large numbers of birds during our Top End dry season. Moving on we cross the Marrakai Plains and the Adelaide and Mary Rivers before our morning tea stop at an outback pub and roadhouse, the Bark Hut Inn. We then turn off the Arnhem Highway down the old Jim Jim 4WD dirt track into Kakadu National Park, with the opportunity to view birds and wildlife at waterholes along the way. After lunch we join a boat cruise on the famous Yellow Water Billabong, abundant with many species of birds and of course the mighty saltwater crocodile. Later we visit the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre. Tonight our accommodation is at the Gagudju Crocodile Holiday Inn in Jabiru. (L)

Day 2: After breakfast we head to Nanguluwur rock art and occupation sites. These sites are less well known and well away from the crowds but have some excellent examples of rock art including the rare and ancient dynamic figures, x-ray style art and the so called contact period art which represents the Aboriginal peoples first contact with white man. Your guide will explain the art and culture of the area. After lunch we head south along the 4WD track to Maguk Gorge (Barramundie Gorge) and spend the afternoon in this picturesque area. At the end of a monsoonal forest walk you can enjoy a swim in the refreshing natural plunge pool below a beautiful perennial waterfall. Tonight our accommodation is at the Gagudju Crocodile Holiday Inn in Jabiru. (BL)

Day 3: Early morning join your light aircraft at Jabiru airstrip for a 30 minute scenic flight into a private bush airstrip in remote Western Arnhem Land at Borradaile Safari Camp. Experienced guides will escort you through a series of educative adventures that include visiting 60,000 year old Aboriginal rock art and occupation sites and an interpretation of those sites. Enjoy a sunset billabong cruise whilst enjoying drinks and nibbles and take in the areas natural beauty. There are great photographic opportunities. Or if fishing is your passion then you have come to the right place. You may want to try you luck at catching one of the famous fighting fish - the Barramundie. Monsoonal rainforests and paperbark stands act as buffers to adjacent flood plains and lily covered waterways with eucalypt woodlands seasonally alight with brilliant, yellow, red or orange blossoms. More than 200 species of bird call the area home over locally recognised seasons, their colourful presence a delight to the enthusiastic bird watcher or just sit back and soak up the atmosphere. Overnight ensuite cabins. (BLD)

Day 4: Wake to the sounds of the bush and enjoy a cooked breakfast. Today’s activities are determined by your interests, seasons and tides and could be any of the following. Explore more of the many rock art sites, visit billabong country for bird and wildlife spotting, 4WD to the coast for fishing, wander along the remote and private beach, bush walking, swimming, learn more about traditional foods and medicines, photography, relaxing evenings around the camp fire or maybe a combination of activities. (BLD)

Day 5: Depart Borradaile at 9 am to Darwin by light aircraft eta in Darwin approx. 10am (B)

Additional Comments:
